I have lived in an apartment block with a "No Cold Calling" policy for nearly 2 years now. I have never once had the witnesses knock so either they obey the law even tho it is man's and not God's or they don't think there is any-one here worth converting!

Do JWs still try to get into locked security apartments to leave tracts?
by VM44 init was once a very common practice of jws when distributing "special" tracts (the tractwork) that if they encountered a locked security apartment they would wait for someone to exit or leave, and then enter, or they would get one resident to let them in, and then they would leave the tract at every apartment door within the complex.. isn't that trespassing?.
do the jws still do this?.

Could ''boredom'' at the Kingdom Hall be one reason why some members leave?
by RULES & REGULATIONS inyou'll find boredom where there is the absence of a good idea earl nightingale quotes (us motivational writer and author, 1921-1989).
let's forget that most members leave due to the wrong beliefs, doctrines and practices of the wts!.
i was bored out of my mind from the repetitive: talks, prayers, ministry school demonstrations, field service talks(peddle magazines),assemblies, special talks and watchtower magazine study articles.

A young MS gave a talk once which was lively, informative and not boring. An elder (Ivor Holmes) commented afterwards, "we are not here to be entertained".

Continuity of the Bible - Start to Finish
by tyu ini was asked in a previous topic whether i thought the bible had continuity in its thought/teaching from start to finish, from old to new testament.
you can argue from specific passages taken apart and out of context that the bible contradicts itself, but, all in all, there is one message-that of love, a father's love.
the bible is the story of a father who creates a family (beginning with adam and eve), but they break their bond with him.

I was walking my dog and JWs told me about some good news!
by moshe inwell, it was a nice morning to take my dog for a walk and about a mile from my home i met a car load of jws working the condos.
two brothers hit on me before they went back to their car.
apparently they hadn't been able to talk to anyone this morning -10:30am, so they were eager to find a stooge who would listen to them.. i immediately decided i wouldn't talk about their doctrine, so i jumped on the flood of noah after they got the intros out of the way.

Thanks moshe and also bohm for the links. Just wish I could memorise it all but a few key points will have to surfice for next time I encounter any JWs. If any of those facts or figures had been quoted at me out on FS I would have had no answer. I cannot believe now for how long I accepted without question all those fables as "truth".

Understanding Christ's Sacrifice
by tec ini haven't always understood how christ could have carried our sins for us, and had them forgiven.
i've sort of understood because that's what people say he did, but the ransom (in a legalistic adam/jesus way) never held weight for me.
but something recently happened that allowed me to understand.

Yes I read it, but no, sorry, I just don't get it.

Streets76. I agree.
Once a ransom is paid those paying the ransom do not ususally get their money back. That is the sacrifice, losing the money. But,
"God loved the world so much he lent his only begotten son for a short period of time, but then he got him back again a bit later on. Perhaps someone can explain the sacrifice and ransom thing to me cos I never truly understood it.

Contribution Boxes At The Book Groups , Did You Donate More There Than The Hall ?
by Hairyhegoat inthis may have been covered a few years back but the thought came to me just how much money the wathtower lost in contributions when they got rid of the book study groups in witnesess homes.
my book group was at my parents house and as it was always full, over 30 drones every tuesday night.
this caused mayhem in the road outside with all the cars double parking etc... the jw's at my group always put loads of wonga into the tin on the welsh dresser!

I never put money in at the Book Study cuz I didn't want anyone seeing. I always got my girls to put it in the box at the hall until we were "encouraged" to pay by monthly direct debit. I think that is how most at my old hall pay now.

but it's time for me to leave.

I don't always agree with some of the opinions and love it when I do or some-one agrees with me but the thing I love most is that here we are allowed to have different opinions and thoughts and ideas without being judged or excommunicated!!!
